COREN Interviews use to have a duration of 20 to 30 minutes

General Instructions on Appearance and Answering Questions

  1. Ensure you dress well.
  2. If you wear a corporate dress, ensure you put on a tie.
  3. If you wear agbada or traditional, ensure you put on a cap.
  4. Be bold and confident in answering questions even if you are not sure of the answer.
  5. Don’t be quick to respond to questions. Ensure you understand the question you’re being asked and use the right engineering terms when answering.

General Instructions on likely Areas of Concentration for Questions (drawn from the COREN website)

  1. Practice and understand engineering in planning, design, production, construction, installation, fabrication, testing, commissioning, maintenance, operations, research, entrepreneurship, and sales of Engineering Products.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of Standards, Codes, Manuals, Handbooks, and other documents that contain the body of knowledge and practice relevant to the field of engagement.
  3. Health, Safety, and Environmental issues relevant to the area of practice.
  4. The Engineers Code of Ethics, regulations, and COREN Act.
  5. Current Affairs (as related to Engineering Profession).

General Question/Current Affairs

This is basically about NSE and COREN, e.g.

  1. Who is the president of NSE?
  2. Who is the president of COREN?
  3. Who is the registrar of CORN?
  4. What is the full meaning of COREN?
  5. What is the full meaning of NSE and enumerate three (3) of its functions?
  6. State three (3) functions of COREN.
  7. Compare and contrast the functions of COREN and NSE.
  8. Do you think engineers are responsible for the high rate of unemployment currently witnessed in the country?

Chemical Engineering

  1. Do you think society needs Chemical Engineers for infrastructural development?
  2. Discuss briefly the mechanism of heat transfer. How does it influence equipment design?
  3. Fluids can be classified into two major categories based on their behavior to applied shear stress, state the two categories giving an example of each.
  4. What is the application of anyone mentioned in Number 3 above?
  5. An equation for the pressure drops in a fixed bed was given. We were required to state which would have a greater effect on the pressure drop across the reactor.
  6. 10% decrease in particle size Dp.
  7. 10% decrease in reactor bed pore size, ‘phi’.
  8. In the industrial preparation of vinyl chloride, two processes are considered. State the advantage and disadvantages of each process.

Mechanical/Material & Metallurgical/Mechatronic Engineering

  1. Do you think society differentiates between Mechanical, Metallurgical/Material, and Mechatronics Engineering disciplines?
  2. Write briefly on the following as related to engineering design (a) component de-rating (b) redundancy
  3. List two methods of extracting metals from their ore.
  4. As a Material Engineer, apart from the use of traditional ceramics in producing canopies for aircraft which shattered when hit by birds and rocks, design any other material that could be used to prevent the canopy from being scattered.
  5. What is responsible for the continuous increase in infrastructure collapse? Do you think you are responsible?
  6. List safety precautions to take at the workplace.
