Aluminum roofing sheets are the most sought-after type of roofing sheets in Nigeria. The desirability of these sheets lies on many beautiful qualities that it has. Aluminum roofing sheets, though expensive and generate noise, they do not corrode. They are resistant to dust, durable (can last 25 to 50 years), reliable and add elegance and beauty to the building. They radiate heat from the sun and thus minimize heat coming into the buildings, they are lightweight and easy to install.

Types of Aluminum roofing sheet

Aluminum roofing sheet come in basically two types in Nigeria. These are:

Longspan aluminuim roofing sheet

Step-tile aluminuim roofing sheet.

There is also the Metcoppo aluminuim roofing sheet which is a subclass under step-tile roofing sheet. The difference in these types lies on their thickness and design. Aluminum roofing sheets can be supplied in any length required up to 20 m sheet. They come in gauges (thickness) from 0.45 to 0.9 mm.

Tower span aluminum roofing sheets manufactured mainly in two (2) widths of 800 mm (industrial 5) and 1000 mm (industrial 6) have the following details (Table 1). Read more HERE.

Estimation of quantity of aluminum roofing sheets

The estimation of aluminum roofing sheets takes linear dimensions along the ridge of the roof. An average of 3 bolts per m2 is used. Other aluminum roofing accessories are ridge capping, flashing apron etc. They are measured in linear metres with a standard length of 3 m long. Effective length coverage depends on the end laps given, usually 150 mm. Thus, having known the length to be covered, the total number of ridge capping needed for the roof can be determined.
