A professor of Civil Engineering once said and I quote, ”practical derives from theory”. While in school we are taken through a lot of theoretical principles that lays foundation for our understanding of our course of study. In the period of study, we are often given opportunity to go for site training and experience usually called Industrial Training (IT). This enables us to have a practical appreciation and to see the connection between the theory we have been learning and its practical applications. This is usually an exciting experience for those who are passionate about their course of study.
After graduation, those who are engaged in research continue to study and develop their academic skills while majority enter into the field to practice. In field practice there is usually little or no time for studies even when these are quite necessary to keep oneself up to date in current trends. Though experience and constant practice makes one acquainted with various processes involved in construction, often times challenges are met that requires one to consult experts in such fields or specialized textbooks for guidance. We cannot stop learning. In other words, we cannot stop reading. Civil Engineers and Allied professionals involved in construction need to set for themselves library of hard copy of textbooks or eBooks in their fields to study for further development. Sometimes one may need a particular book but don’t know how and where to get it.
You can download free ebooks HERE. The ebooks cuts across most civil engineering discipline and allied professions.
